WILL MICHAEL JORDAN BE A SLAM DUNK AT POKER TOO?
The recent poker boom has not only filled the pockets of the world’s best poker players, but it has also launched a new and highly successful way for charities to fundraise. Most of the larger charity events that draw in the big names to play poker take place in Las Vegas or California. But this September the big poker fundraiser will be held in Minnesota.
Former Minnesota Golden Gopher and NBA player Trent Tucker is bringing the Eighth Annual Trent Tucker Celebrity Golf and Poker Tournament to Canterbury Park racetrack in Shakopee, Minnesota on September 8 and 9. What is really eye-catching however, are the celebrities Tucker (who won an NBA Championship with the Chicago Bulls in 1993) was able to pull in.
Already announced as players in the $2,500 buy-in tournament include former NBA stars Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen and Charles Oakley. The celebrities don’t just include basketball stars either, as Microsoft founder and current owner of the Seattle Seahawks and Portland Trail Blazers Paul Allen will be displaying his poker prowess as well.
The basketball stars and tech geeks will also have to compete against some of the best poker players as well. Also announced for the tournament earlier this week were Johnny Chan, Chris “Jesus” Ferguson, Patrik Antonius and Phil Ivey.
The proceeds from the event will go to the Trent Tucker Youth Program. The program helps inner-city youth by starting after-school programs that develop character, provide educational and career guidance, and positive reinforcement.
